'being in stillness' means resting in a place of deep peace and wholeness that encourages profound relaxation of the body, mind, emotions and energy, and supports our natural healing, self-repair and self-correction abilities, reminding us who we are underneath the conditioning of our day to day lives and unresolved experiences. it is inherently non-judgmental, honouring our present perception of how things feel. it is my experience that within every state of body, mind or emotions there is a core of stillness, wholeness and wisdom that can be accessed. even deeply traumatised or injured conditions contain this 'seed' which, if allowed and trusted and nurtured, can bring comfort and help with resolution. wholeness is more than an experience of an absence of unwanted symptoms. it is a recognition of all that we are and a deep acceptance of both our vulnerabilities and our strengths, as well as the possibility of change. in my experience the more we are able to gently find a way of being with ourselves that doesn't seek to cut off or deny the bits we don't approve of but is able to embrace and care for more and more of ourselves, the stronger and more whole we feel, which in itself can provide the needed energy to make changes. we may find that the parts of ourselves that we tend to judge also contain a deep wisdom about what we need and bring gifts and insights we couldn't have imagined. this change in relationship with ourselves is for me the depth of any kind of therapeutic work, which remains beyond whatever the current difficulty is that we are facing and can sustain us over time. all of the types of work i do have their own connection to this sense of wholeness, stillness and presence, and awareness of the benefits of trusting and embracing rather than judging. in craniosacral therapy we recognise a deep stillness that underpins vitality and health in the body and mind, and which is always present, however far from health we may appear to be. in homeopathy there is a similar sense of a clarity and coherence that underlies the other layers of our being such as emotions and physicality, and which can be be relied on to help guide the session and choice of remedy. in the inka shamanic tradition, they call this stillness 'infinity', and the final purpose of all the techniques that might be used is to allow the body and energy to remember their connection to this place and perspective where difficulties can begin to dissolve. although the sense and experience of stillness or wholeness can be profound and at times mysterious, many of its benefits are not beyond understanding – many states of ill-health, especially in the west, are recognised as being either directly stress-related or at least as having a major component of stress and nervous system dysfunction. by working from stillness and with awareness of the many aspects of the wholeness that we all are, we access a natural place for the body and mind to do their repair work, support insights to come forward from a 'deeper' place within us, and allow the nervous system to recuperate, building up resources to face life's challenges. i see the purpose of sessions, as well as being alleviation of difficulties on whatever level, to be about learning to trust ourselves and our intuition, and supporting our sense and experience of 'centre', so that we become more self-reliant and less readily thrown by life's events, more able to let ourselves live fully. as the body and mind settle into their inherent sense of wholeness, perhaps for the first time in many years, we are re-learning how to experience this natural but uncommon place of calmness and peace, and this can become more accessible in between treatments as well. all sessions usually include suggestions of supportive follow-up practices or ideas that could help to integrate and support the work we have done together. please use the navigation bar on the left to read more about the treatments i offer or to view more artwork. content © amanda biggs ~ website designed by aranya ~ powered by joomla and yootheme home craniosacral therapy shamanic healing homeopathy workshops being in stillness shamanic perspectives empathic awareness supervision my background contact me artwork
